Getting
Started
*
Establish a History of Positive Feedback
Once
you have a Half.com account you will see that you have zero feedback,
unless you already have feedback from an eBay account. The feedback
history that you have for Half.com is the same that you would have
eBay because Half.com is an eBay company. Generally people do not
want to buy from someone who has zero feedback on Half.com or eBay
so it is important to establish a feedback history. If you have
some things that you can sell at low prices you may be able to attract
some buyers without or little feedback. In addition to selling you
can get feedback from the purchases that you make on Half.com or
eBay, so consider getting some cheap things on either site for that
reason. When
you sell something ask the buyer to contact you before giving you
negative feedback if they have any concerns, and be careful of leaving
negative feedback from someone you sold to or bought from as they
may leave you negative feedback that you do not deserve.
Once you have a good history you may find that often
people will pay extra for the security of a better seller.
Saving Money
* Save Money on Packing Supplies
Visit stores on
freight day(s) and ask for empty boxes and packing supplies that
they are just going to throw away. Also
keep
in mind padded envelopes are a great alternative to boxes, and often
work perfect for small paperback books, movies, video games and
music cds. Buying padded envelopes in bulk can be a great way to
cut cost of what you pay for them, they come in many sizes so you
should be able to find sizes to hold all sizes of books, cds, video
games and movies as well as being able to hold more than one of
the items for orders that involve purchases.
Attracting
Buyers
Consider
Shipping First Class - Free Upgrade to First Class Shipping
Half.com gives you shipping based on the item(s) that you sold.
In the example of a video game you'll receive about $3 for shipping.
A video game cost about $2 to ship first class, so you can actually
ship the video game quickly (likely resulting in a positive feedback
and you can put "free upgrade to first class shipping"
in your description attracting buyers quicker) and still have nearly
a dollar in earnings from the shipping half.com gives you. Depending
on the size of the order that you have will determine if it is in
your interest to ship first class, so before you put Free Upgrade
to First Class Shipping in a listing calculate that it will not
cost more than what Half.com is going to give you for shipping.
Consider
Shipping Orders Quickly - Next Day Shipping or Ships in Less than
24 Hours Excluding Orders Made on Days That the Post Office is Closed
When it comes time to take care of an order make sure that you have
everything ready. Packing supplies should be on hand so you don't
have to make a trip to the store. Make sure that you have all of
the items that you are selling in one place or that you know where
every item is so you don't have a problem finding the particular
item(s) that you sell. If you are able to go to the post office
often enough you can put "Next Day Shipping" or "Ships
in Less that 24 Hours" and have somewhere in the listing that
you "shipping policy excludes orders made on days that the
post office is closed." Both of the shipping phrases will attract
buyers making it in your interest to get your orders shipped quickly,
plus with your orders arriving in a timely fashion you will likely
get positive feedback from the buyer.
Offer
Priority Shipping
Usually it will
be in your interest to ship first class anyway but offer priority
shipping if people want to pay for it. This can especially attract
buyers during the holidays.
Write Descriptions That are True and Detailed
Basically you
want to include the condition, such as like new, describe that in
further detail, lightly used, plays great, mention your shipping
policy and possibly the reason for selling. Some sellers find that
by including the reason for selling they will attract more buyers,
such as "received this as a gift but already had a copy."
Be sure to include in the description of your items
that you list even the slightest flaw, such as "a few small
scratches" to avoid any returns from people who think that
they are getting something that wasn't described.
