Tips for Google Adsense

Work at Home Resources > Make a Website

Google Adsense has a great selection text and image ads that range in style and size. Make money on ads, specifically Google Adsense ads, can be very easy. There is no designing involved with these ads, they are all premade, you just have to paste the JavaScript code where you want them to be on your site. You can easily change the color scheme of them and give them a custom look to complement your website.

Take Advantages of Channels

When you choose a google adsense ad you'll choose the size and color scheme, you'll be able to save color schemes you like so you can give them short titles, then you'll have the option of giving the ad a channel. Take advantages of the channels as they can help you understand which ads are getting clicked, by including such things as the color scheme, size and kind of ad, location on which site in the channel name. With the location you can get as specific as lower left corner or top center or simply just the name of the page and site. Since a channel name can not be more than 30 characters shorten the words down.

Becomes

EX. Lg Sq Tx Blue3 LL CatToy

What you decide to include in the channel title will be up to you and how you express it in the channel name will also be up to you.

Choose Sizes That Compliment Your Template

When it comes to choosing the size of ads that you use, ultimately the best choices will be the ones that fit your templates well. Keep in mind that google themselves have said that the best performer are the 336x280 Large Rectangle, the 300x250 Medium Rectangle and the 160x600 Wide Skyscraper.

Choose Color Schemes Based on Background and Placement

You website will either have a dark or light background and depending if you are placing the ad within the content or adjacent to it will determine what you might want to do. Essentially there are three things that you can do with your content and ads, blend them, have them compliment one another or have them contrast to one another.

When the background behind the ad is dark and the ad is with the content all three options, blend, complement or contrast can work nicely. If the ads are adjacent to content and the background is dark using the method of contrast or complement would both work well.

When the background behind the ad is light and the ad is within the content blending it works very nicely and if the ad is going to be adjacent to the content and the background is light then both blending or complementing work nicely.

Blending the Ad With Background - make the borders and the background of the ad the same color as the background on the web page that the ad is placed on.

Complementing Ad With Background - The certain color scheme that you have for your site should match the color scheme of the ad. Use like colors as the side but make the background and/or borders different from the direct color that is behind them.

Contrasting Ad With Background - Working best for websites that have dark background contrasting consist of choosing colors for your ad that stand out in the background of your site. Opposite colors often contrast very well.

Choose Both Ad Types

There are essentially three types of ads, text ads, images ads and ads they may be images ads sometimes and text ads other times. By choosing image ads, or ads that will sometimes appear as image ads you can really make your site a bit more colorful and minimize the reading of the ads that you visitors have to do.

Filter Ads That are Irrelevant or Unwanted

You'll will be able to filter out the ads of your choice. If you don't like a particular company or simply don't feel an ad is relevant you can choose to not let it be placed on your site. Try and look at your ads weekly.

Remember the Key to Traffic is Content

Constantly write new information and keep your site looking fresh. Every week try and write a new article for your website. By updating it often your visitors will feel more trustworthy about the information that you submit on your site.

Budget the time you spend working on your site. If you are working on your site with the intent of placing ads, use the time that you are in the sandbox (a term referring to time in which you are not high on the search engines) to prepare your ad placement. There is no point worrying about traffic if you don't have any ads. Once your ads are all up you can begin plugging. Plugging is the process in which you often exchange links with another website, keep in mind that is a good idea to try and exchange links with sites that have good PR (Google Page Rank, which you can see with the free Google Toolbar) and try to avoid link farms.

Have patience. Some times it can take a while before your site is routinely visited. Hang in there and look at this time as an opportunity to make it the best you can, following the suggestions above. A lot of places offer link exchange. If you place a link to them they will place a link to you for free. Search: "link to us" "link exchange" and "submit a site" However keep in mind that link swapping should be done in moderation, too much can actually penalize you in the search engines.
