Many of the children who need child care are under the age of 10 but there are many parents who have multiple children and do not want their 10-12 year old home alone watching the younger children all by themselves. Since they have to find child care for their younger children they will take their older children to the same kind of child care. Others frankly do not like the idea of even their 12 year old coming home to an empty house for hours while the parents are at work. For these reasons you may find that you have older children to care for between the ages of 10 and 12. This group of children can actually be very easy to care for.

During the school season most children at this age group have homework. For this reason for any child care that you are doing for these children at your in home daycare after school will likely be filled with homework. If you are watching children who tend to have homework have a table that they can work at. This can help you keep an eye on them easily and this can help a lot if you are watching much younger children at your in home daycare as well.

All year long, you will find that older children can be easier to watch because they are able to determine what is acceptable to do and what is not, unlike a toddler looking to explore every item that they find. Usually they are able to help with younger children and do great work during such activities as clean up.

Due to their advanced age they are able to do other activities, like crafts, that can keep them peacefully busy and contained to one area. If you have children in this age group you may find they enjoy having other children in the home daycare that are around their age that they can play with.

Generally children these ages will have younger siblings that attend the same in home daycare, so although you will charge less to care for an older child they will often mean that there will be a second or third child that the family that they also want child care for.
