Direct Sales Tips for
Throwing a Party

Work at Home Mom Resources > Direct Sales Rep

As a sales representative it helps to have a well thought out approach to the sales rep industry. It will be often that at your home you will be hosting a party to let people know about your products and give people the opportunity to purchase your products and consider the sales rep career for themselves. There are several things that can help with your party planning and party hosting.

Prepare and Practice Your Presentation
Often the company that you work for will want you to encourage other people to work for them too. By mentioning discounts and benefits you optimize the chance of someone becoming interested in this line of work. Give your presentation to anyone who is not a likely customer but will be willing to listen, such as your husband or significant other. Once you feel confident with your presentation you can begin the process of your first party.

Let People Know About Your Products
• Post a catalog in the teachers lounge of the local schools or in the employee lunch room of any place of business that permits it.
• By having the products that you yourself use in plain site at your home you increase the chance of someone asking about them.
• If you have business cards you can leave them on bulletin boards of local businesses.
• Have your husband or significant other have the products at their place of work.

Let People Know You Are Having a Party
• Calling people is a way to let people know about your party and you don't have to leave home to do it.
• If you have current catalogs or wraps to spare, place them around the neighborhood.
• Advertise in your local newspaper.
• Leave a catalog with the receptionist at a doctor's or dentist's office.

Some Things to Do At Your Party
Encourage relatives and friends to come, the more the merrier.
• During your party start an email address book of customers who want to know about monthly specials.
• Offer free catalogs for the guest to keep and pass around their work.

• Carry a notepad to write down things you want to remember.
• If someone wishes something was cheaper offer to notify them when it goes on sale.
• Have people make a wish list and offer to send it to their significant other.

Things to Keep in Mind for the Next Party
• Review your notes and see if you can take care of special request.
• Review orders from the past party and refresh your memory on some of the things that people bought, you won't want to recommend something to someone that they already have.
• Consider doing follow up phone calls to particularly interested guests.

General Business
• Set goals!
• Work on your business everyday.
• Learn all that you can about the business so you are prepared to answer questions about your work.
• Be proud about what you do and try not being too shy when talking about your products or business.
• Try to remember to smile while talking on the phone.
